4 for $5 Salads at Whole Foods

One of my all time favorite places to go to for lunch during the week is Whole Foods. I work almost directly across the street from it, so it’s a super convenient place to eat a quick lunch. Most people who are on a budget probably try to avoid Whole Foods since most of their products tend to be more on the expensive end. However, upon scanning the entire store, I have found one of the best deals in the whole store.

If you head over to the counter directly across from the salad bar, in between the Asian noodle bar and the deli meat counter, you will find a bunch of freshly cooked meats, various kinds of salads (green salads, pasta salads, quinoa salads), and potatoes. This part of the Whole Foods deli offers a 4 for $5 deal. They usually have 4 different items in the case that are part of the deal and usually the options are different day to day. The employees at this counter will fill up a carton with four sections of each food item and you get it all for just $5. It fills you up and you can feel good about eating it because all of the options are super healthy!

I typically indulge on this deal at least once a week. This week I went and filled up my carton with mashed sweet potatoes, a superfood salad, a curry cauliflower salad, and a butternut squash salad. The mashed sweet potatoes were perfectly sweet, with just a hint of salt. The superfood salad consisted of fresh kale, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, strawberries, and blueberries. It tasted fresh and sweet and I loved the added crunchiness from the sunflower and pumpkin seeds. The curry cauliflower salad was probably my favorite thing in the box. The cauliflower was mixed with fresh green beans, cherry tomatoes, and sauteed onion. There wasn’t an overwhelming amount of curry mixed in, but it was enough that it provided the perfect amount of spice and flavor to the veggies. The butternut squash salad consisted of roasted butternut squash, spinach, and dried cranberries. This salad tasted like the most delicious healthy dessert. The butternut squash was perfectly roasted, and the dried cranberries provided just the right amount of tartness to balance out the sweet flavor of the butternut squash.

I tend to mix my salads, hence the butternut squash and blueberries mixed in with my mashed sweet potatoes. So yummy!

If you work in Mount Pleasant or just happen to find yourself looking for a quick, cheap, healthy meal while on-the-go, this deal is a great option. Whole Foods has other quick food options, such as a taco bar, a salad bar, a pizza bar, and a meat bar, but most of those options will cost you at least $8 and up. The 4 for $5 deal at the deli counter is my go-to because you get a full meal for just $5, which is amazing. It’s also a great way to taste different things and get some good ideas for cooking healthy meals at home!
